Often overlooked in a system wide protection system are the telecom circuits and related equipment, which are extremely vulnerable to transient damage. Unlike AC power equipment, which is somewhat buffered by power distribution components and power supplies, data and telecom lines are connected directly to sensitive “board-level" electronics. These components will suffer catastrophic failure when exposed to even low level transient voltage surges. Protecting these vital circuits is another key element of the properly conceived and installed facility wide protection plan.
