The I.T. System Shield

There is a growing problem for American businesses.

Every year the investment by American business in sophisticated electrical and electronic equipment grows. We realize that we are competing in a global marketplace and we need the increased power and productivity that cutting edge equipment offers. We buy computers, automated manufacturing systems, telecommunications systems, local area networks, and highly technical office equipment. Our companies depend on the reliable performance and longevity of this equipment.

As electrical and electronic equipment become more sophisticated, they are more sensitive to transient disruptions in their power supply. It is estimated that U.S. businesses lose over $26 billion annually to electrical power related transient problems. Controlling, lowering or eliminating these transient power-related problems could enhance the productivity of any modern facility. . Nearly every type of office or industrial equipment both causes and is adversely affected by transients. The effects of these transients accumulate over time and cause semiconductor degradation that leads to premature failure, costly downtime and productivity loss. Every company that is not adequately protected pays its share of the $26 billion loss.

A facility's electrical and electronic equipment is directly affected by power disturbances. Every piece of equipment that is critical to the production of your product or service should be shielded to prevent disruption, damage and destruction.

There is a field proven solution to your transient voltage problems. Innovative Technology produces an extensive line of Protectors transient voltage surge suppression devices that will prevent equipment destruction, disruption and damage caused by electrical transients. With the Protectors your investment in sensitive electric and electronic equipment is safe.

By systematically applying proper variations of The I.T. Protectors at strategic points throughout your facility, you raise The I.T. System Shield. The I.T. System Shields protects all your electrical and electronic equipment, from heavy motors to lighting and sensitive computer-based controllers.

The I.T. System Shield offers field proven protection that begins at the incoming power panels and extends to every distribution center, breaker panel and multifeed disconnect in the system. From there the shield extends to protect telecommunication, data circuits, and individual equipment at point-of-use locations. The I.T. System Shields is multi-layered to protect and save your equipment from transients no matter where they are generated.

The main line of defense from heavy external transient activity, such as lightning, is through The I.T. Protectors units installed at high exposure service entrance locations. At the service entrance heavy external transient amplitudes are suppressed to levels that subsequent layers of the I.T. System Shields can eliminate.

The heart of the I.T. System Shield is the I.T. Protector units installed at the high to medium exposure locations of distribution panels. These units provide the second layer of defense against externally generated transients and protect your equipment from the more prevalent effects of internally generated transients (80%).

Branch panel locations, with the proper model of the I.T. Protector installed, provide an additional layer of protection against any heavy external transients that may have been powerful enough to penetrate to this level of the I.T. System Shield. At a typical facility units at these locations are particularly important. Sensitive and critical loads are fed from these branch panels. The I.T. Protector units installed at these locations are designed to address changing transient characteristics by way of the I.T. Active Tracking Network (SP series units) and other features. I.T.'s multistage hybrid ATN responds immediately to transients at all phase angles across a wide range of frequencies, whatever the polarity. ATN provides extremely low let-through-voltage levels on switching generated ringing transients (the most common types in electrical systems) and also lightning generated impulse activity.

Relatively low transients can take down computer LAN, telephone and other, similar systems. Data and telecommunication circuits are especially vulnerable at building entry points. The I.T. Protector units installed at these locations provide effective protection for these sensitive and mission critical systems.

Individual equipment, such as process control, sensing/monitoring and dc power supplies may all require their own I.T. Protector. Additionally, I.T. Protector plug-in units installed at point-of-use locations provide added protection against external transients and address/intercircuit interaction between equipment on shared power circuits.

Please look at the diagram below to get a visual image of the System Shield and how it functions to take a 21,000 volt strike at the service entrance and reduce that down to 0 volts at the point of use equipment.
