Beautiful flowers are one of the wonders of the world.

Unfortunately, most flowers are very fragile and don't last long.

The natural enemy in the floral industry is an odorless,
colorless gas called ethylene. Ethylene gas is produced by
plants to regulate growth and development. It accelerates
aging of both potted plants and cut flowers. It destroys
petals, stems and color, and shortens the life of flowers
and ornamentals. In feet, aging and damaged plants give
off even more gas, triggering and accelerating the
decaying process in young, healthy plants.

Flower Power removes ethylene gas to dramatically extend
the life of cut flowers and plants.

Cut flowers have high respiration rates. Even after
harvest, flowers continue to breathe, consuming oxygen and producing carbon dioxide in a process called respiration. Slowing the respiration rate will extend the life of plants and cut flowers.

Observation and Problems

Failure of cut flowers to open, premature closing of open flowers, sleepiness (a wilted look), leaf yellowing and leaves dropping off. Foliage plants dropping leaves and flowers. Roses and other flowers experiencing rapid flower opening.

Solution

Flower Power filters were installed in the floral coolers in order to reduce the ethylene gas that the flowers and plants were producing and eliminate the excess condensation that had been present. As a result, the Flower Power installation created a healthier environment for the cut flowers and plants.

Results

The owner of the Plant Gallery, Mr. Ken Rabalais, responded, "The Flower Power Filter system reduced the ethylene gas thereby allowing the petals and stems to stay crisp and fresh. This is a letter of gratitude for introducing me to your wonderful product. First, let me give you a few of my credentials. I'm currently rated number 2 in floral sales in my Wal-Mart district. I also just received a congratulatory letter from the President of Wal-Mart for the work I am doing in my flower department. This letter will also specifically describe the problems we have been experiencing with our flowers and the solutions we have discovered, which have significantly increased our sales recently.

ethylene The problem: We have discovered that our roses are creating gas in the cooler--destroying many of them beforethey can be sold. It's like a man stuck in a refrigerator, breathing his own carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide will kill a man, and ethylene gas basically does the same thing to a flower.

The solution: We have installed a new technology called Flower Power in our flower case that is making our flowers last longer. This product is a blend of minerals hung inconspicuously behind the flowers in our presentation cooler. These all-natural rechargeable minerals adsorb the ethylene gas out of the air. Now the flowers are breathing fresh oxygen instead of stale air.

Specifics: Four dozen roses are delivered two times a week to our Wal-Mart store. I used to throw out about 25% of the shipment before it was sold. With Flower Power, I only throw out 1%. One hundred and sixty carnations and pompoms are delivered weekly. I used to throw out 25%, and now I throw out only l0% -- but they are the ones sitting in the store isles, away from the Flower Power. Flowers in the cooler, with Flower Power, are rarely thrown out.

Without Flower Power, the roses usually develop slimy mildew inside the petals after one week. With Flower Power, almost all of the roses are sold before mildew appears.

A lot of people have told me they don't like to buy roses here at our Wal-Mart store because they simply don't last. People actually bring them back. When they take them home, the roses often die after 2-4 days and do not "open" as they should. Many chose not to buy flowers from us for that very reason.

Since putting Flower Power in the cooler, I am selling more roses. Linda Corman, a cashier near my flower display agrees. I have noticed the roses look much better in our showcase, and they don't have brown edges any more. That may be part of the reason we are selling more.

I believe every flower storage location can benefit from this new technology--the warehouse in Colombia, every transportation vehicle, and every cooler that displays the flowers to the public. I will be taking your Flower Power samples to our supplier when I attend a floral convention in Kansas City on February 9th. Flower Power™ Filter Information

The Flower Power filter contains a proprietary zeolite mineral blend enclosed in a breathable pouch. The pouch is encased in an aluminum bracket. As air moves through the Flower Power filter, the zeolite minerals maintain an ideal humidity level and eliminate ethylene gas.

The Flower Power filter is installed behind the cooler evaporators. 10 and 20-lb. filters are available.

A 10-lb. filter can handle up to 500 cubic feet. A 20-lb. filter can handle up to 1,000 cubic feet.

The dimensions of the 10-lb. filter are L15" X H12" X W3".  
The dimensions of the 20-lb. filter are L30" X H12" X W3".

To determine the number of filters required, divide the cubic footage by 500 if using the 10-lb. filter and by 1,000 if using the 20-lb. filter and round up to the next whole number.
