From post harvest to market, the Mega Fresh® Filter is a simple, effective, affordable solution for reducing ethylene gas and stopping the cross transfer of odors from one product to another. The Mega Fresh® Filter will increase the shelf life of fruits and vegetables and will reduce shrink (waste) by up to 50%.
The Mega Fresh® Filter is designed for use in commercial refrigeration units. This product is comprised of 100% all natural minerals encased in an aluminum bracket. The Mega Fresh® Filter requires no electricity and has no moving parts. The Mega Fresh® Filter installs behind the produce evaporators resulting in no loss of storage space. When properly maintained, Mega Fresh® Filters never wear out and never need to be replaced.
How does it work? As air moves through the Mega Fresh® Filter, excess moisture, ethylene gas and odors are eliminated by natural minerals called zeolites. This results in crisper, cleaner air, less odor and colder temperatures in the walk-in cooler. Zeolites are safe, inert, stable, non-toxic and non-corrosive.
Ethylene Gas
Ethylene gas is an odorless, colorless gas that is naturally produced by the ripening process. Ethylene gas causes the premature and accelerated ripening and decay of fruits and vegetables. Bananas and tomatoes are shipped while they are green and are exposed to ethylene gas in large chambers to ripen them prior to being placed in supermarkets. By eliminating ethylene gas, Mega Fresh® dramatically increases the shelf life of produce. The USDA has stated that the Mega Fresh® has the ability to put fruits and vegetables to sleep. This means only the internal sugars continue to ripen the fruit or vegetable.
Odor Control
Mega Fresh® removes the cross transfer of odor, so fruits and vegetables can be shipped and stored together.
Humidity Control
Mega Fresh® maintains the idea humidity level in walk-in coolers. When excess humidity is present, the zeolite minerals will remove moisture. When the air is dry, the zeolite minerals will release moisture. Eliminating excess moisture prevents mold, mildew and bacteria growth.
Energy Conservation
When excess moisture is removed from the air, less energy is needed to lower temperatures for cooling. By eliminating excess moisture, Mega Fresh® will cause the walk-in cooler temperature to drop by several degrees and reduce the compressor run time resulting in energy savings.

Observation and Problems
The Associated Grocery Store Co-op was experiencing a problem with keeping fruits and vegetables fresher and odor free throughout their entire operations. The "shrink" was running far above industry standards. In addition, the majority of the produce coolers had excess moisture, which in turn was causing a mold problem.
Solution
Mega Fresh® Filter units were installed behind the existing produce evaporators. This type of installation did not impede any use of shelf space or storage ability of fruits and vegetables. The goal was to reduce excess moisture and control the ethylene gas.

y name is Richie Lowe. I am the Executive Chef at the Abita Brewing Company. We acquired several of your Mega Fresh Filters.
My primary problem was two fold. First of all, I had a serious dampness problem in my walk-in cooler. This was particularly an item of concern with fresh fruit. I had flats of strawberries molding in as short a period of time as 36 hours. Secondly, and just as disturbing, was the retention of odors in my reach-in refrigeration boxes.
Since installing your product, my dampness problem in the walk-in cooler has subsided dramatically. I am now using up a flat of strawberries in 2-3 days with no sign of deterioration from the original freshness of the product. Additionally, my walk-in cooler is staying 6 to 10 degrees cooler and we have been able to reduce our cooling cycle by 1.5 hours per day. This has had a very positive effect on the quality of our produce as well. The odor problem in my cook's reach-ins and freezers in virtually non-existent.

The Mega Fresh® Filter contains a proprietary zeolite mineral blend enclosed in a breathable pouch. The pouch is encased in an aluminum bracket. As air moves through the Mega Fresh® Filter, the zeolite minerals eliminate excess moisture, ethylene gas and odors.
The Mega Fresh® Filter is installed behind the produce evaporators. 10 and 20-lb. filters are available. A 10-lb. filter can handle up to 500 cubic feet. A 20-lb. filter can handle up to 1,000 cubic feet. The dimensions of the 10-lb. filter are L15" X H12" X W3". The dimensions of the 20-lb. filter are L30" X H12" X W3". To determine the number of filters required, divide the cubic footage by 500 if using the 10-lb. filter and by 1,000 if using the 20-lb. filter and round up to the next whole number.

Mega Fresh® Filters are a one-time purchase. If properly maintained, Mega Fresh® Filters never wear out and never need to be replaced. Zeolites are characterized by the ability to adsorb and lose water and gases without damaging the crystal structure. Zeolite minerals never wear out.
Maintenance
Every 12 months, dry out the Mega Fresh® Filters in the sun for 8 hours or bake the filters in an oven at 120 degrees for 2 hours. The heat dries out the filter and releases the moisture and gases that have been adsorbed.
