President’s Message:

Dear Fellow Longhorns,

Being president of the Fort Worth Texas Exes chapter has been a lot of fun so far. I've enjoyed meeting and getting to know so many of you! Because we have over 10,000 alumni in Fort Worth and the surrounding areas, we want to get many more people involved. With that said, the board and I wanted to clarify that it's not necessary to be a dues-paying member of the Texas Exes in order to participate with the local Fort Worth chapter. Of course, there are many benefits to being a member, such as the Texas Exes Career Services, discounts from the Co-op, and discounts and pre-sale tickets to athletic events. Additionally, membership allows you access to the UT online library system, tailgating events at the alumni center, and numerous publications.

The local chapter does not charge membership dues. We do, however, offer member and non-member prices for our paid events. These are typically our scholarship fund raisers. We have a lot of fun events coming up, so if you bleed orange like we do, come join us!

We also have a need for a new president elect. The president elect's responsibilities include: assisting the president in meeting the chapter's goals, working on all chapter projects to familiarize yourself with the chapter you'll be presiding over next year, and acting as the presiding officer in the absence of the president. The term will continue until June 30, 2011, at which point, the president elect becomes the chapter president for one full year. If you are interested in serving or would like more information, please contact me at dianatroy@allstate.com or (214) 208-0690.

The Fort Worth Texas Exes chapter of the The Ex-Students’ Association of The University of Texas at Austin has several need-based scholarships available to students from the Fort Worth area who are soon to be incoming freshmen at The University of Texas at Austin.  We recognize the hard work of these students and hope to help them excel in their studies.  The available scholarships are worth $1500.00, and a scholarship committee of Texas Exes members that reside in the Fort Worth area will determine the recipients.  Students are chosen based on financial need and scholastic achievement.  All students planning to attend The University of Texas at Austin are encouraged to apply.

The application is available at www.texasexes.org/fortworth.  In addition to the application, we request that each student submit an official high school transcript and a letter of recommendation from a teacher or counselor.  Applications, transcripts, and recommendation letters may be mailed or emailed to Jennifer Hay, Scholarship Committee Chair (see below for contact info).  The deadline for submitting applications is Friday, January 6, 2012.  Any application postmarked/emailed after that will not be considered by the committee.  Scholarship recipients will be notified by March 2, 2012.  An official announcement will be made to Texas Exes donors at our scholarship fundraising banquet that evening.  Attendance is not required for scholarship recipients.  Scholarships are only given to students who attend The University of Texas at Austin.

Thank you for your assistance in notifying your students about our scholarships.  Please give a copy of this letter to any or all students on your campus who are interested in attending The University of Texas at Austin.  Please contact me if you have any questions or need additional assistance.  I look forward to receiving many applications from your students.
